Greece has long established traditions in the sphere of philosophy, art, poetry and culture. Each little piece of land that belongs to the country’s territory is so full of meaning and history that it can easily turn into a tourism landmark that deserves to be visited.

The country is also rich in natural landmarks. Its beaches and islands attract large number of tourists. The same applies to the Greek monasteries and religious heritage. Here is a list of the top five places in Greece that deserve to be visited and that you are likely to enjoy tremendously.

Athens: Athens is the capital of Greece and the country’s biggest city. It is important to know that Athens was a very important city in Ancient Greece and it played a strategic role for many centuries.

The Acropolis is undoubtedly one of the most popular symbols of Athens and Greece. It can be seen from nearly all parts of the city, standing tall and proud in its ancient beauty.

Crete Island: This is the biggest Greek island and the fifth biggest Mediterranean island. It is located closest to North Africa in comparison to the other Greek islands. The length of the island is 260 km and its coastline is 1046 km long. The Mediterranean climate creates excellent opportunities for rest and relaxation. Even the winter is mild and warm. Each large beaches and numerous shopping streets take visitors to the magical world of the Mediterranean and guarantee a perfect summer vacation.

Rhode Island: Rhode Island is the easternmost of the Greek islands in Aegean Sea. The island is located west of Turkey, between continental Greece and Cyprus.

The island’s biggest landmark is the Colossus of Rhodes, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Rhode has a number of other intriguing landmarks. Its nature is known for the amazing beauty. The so-called Valley of Butterflies, as its name suggests, is a place where beautiful butterflies can be seen during the summer.

Rhode city has various landmarks, its acropolis being the most popular ones. Various seaside resorts have been set up, as well.

Chalkidiki Peninsula: Chalkidiki Peninsula is located in Northern Greece and it resembles a trident in shape. Its beaches are nearly 500 kilometers long and turn into a favorite summer spot for people from all parts of the world.

Chalkidiki is often compared to a virgin natural paradise that has remained unaffected by modern developments, construction and industry. Apart from its beaches, Chalkidiki brags various landmarks – Athos Mountain, Stagira – the birth place of Aristotle and Nea Roda – the narrowest point of the peninsula where Xerxes opened a canal for his fleet.

Kavala: Kavala is a charming coastal city on the Aegean coast. It is located in Northern Greece and is one of the most popular Aegean Sea resorts in Greece.

The town has an old part and modern new districts. The old town is exceptionally beautiful with cobblestone streets, Mediterranean buildings and ancient fortress. The highest part of the town reveals amazing view of the port and the Aegean Sea.
